occasional oil overheating?

my 1995 v6 smokes sometimes, and Mr Anders on this site and my neighbor the boat mechanic made me realize this is probably an occassional oil ring blow-by issue not a head gasket issue. When the engine is idling for awhile say 10-15 mins, after the fan cycles on, etc, I get the light blue exhaust smoke, which was so close to white I thought it might be water.
So with the temp gauge in the perfect position, and water clearly moving thru the fill reservoir while running, the question is, why is the engine so hot that it breaks down the oil? Or is there another reason why it runs fine at hiway spead and around town, not burning oil, but when it idles it burns oil. This is dino oil changed less than 3000 miles ago.
After idling and burning oil, I can drive it around to "cool it off" and it stops burning oil, but then it will burn light blue again if I idle it for 15 mins. It doesn't smell like burnt oil to me, but my neighbor says it's still oil. I have put B-12 in the gasoline in case I stuck an injector, could have changed the smell.
thanks to anyone who can help solve this mystery,
cheers,
