It's called a "Blow Off Valve" or BOV in the US, and "Dump Valve" in the UK. The type that comes stock on most turbo euro cars is called a "Bypass valve" since it recirculates the air. It keeps shock waves from stalling the compressor turbine between shifts. Yes, the Forge Bosch replacement is a bypass valve and it is not loud. You can't use the BOV type unless the EFI system is Speed-Density or MAP sensor based. MAF systems must use a bypass valve or the mixture will go rich between shifts. The system will inject fuel based on more air than is actually present in the system.
