I had my tranny dismantled about a year ago. I have an official Saab transmission manual which I used at that time. Looking in the manual, I can't find a definitive drawing that shows where a piece of drill bit would go, but there is one drawing that gives one an idea.
From that drawing, I'd say you are at risk a serious problem. The alignment hole is centered right over the output shaft, which, of course, has 5 gear wheels on it. The input shaft is slightly offset to one side, but not far enough to be out of harms way. Below the gears on both shafts, is the bottom of the case. I doubt that there is sufficient clearance between the gears and the case to allow for a piece of drill bit.
