Got a set of Kumhos HP4s on my daughter's '97 900s yesterday. She got home and said it seemed to be shaking worse than with the old tires - I took it on the highway and found it starting shaking above 55 as if the tires hadn't been balanced at all (they had, though).

Too late to make it back to the tire shop that day so I called them, they said I'd have to leave it "since it takes a long time to troubleshoot that kind of thing" and that it might be necessary to "force balance" the tire, whatever that means. I told them it was pretty clear at least one was defective, and wouldn't the logical thing be to find it and replace it? They said "it depends".

That doesn't sound reassuring to me - she is going to be driving the car cross country next week, and the thought of sending her off on cut rate tires that have been diddled to try and make them balance is not encouraging.
