P0341 and distributors

When we got the car (900s 2.3) the CEL was on - pulled the codes and got the apparently common P0341. New plugs wires, cap rotor didn't cure it, back on in 20 miles. I suppose that means distributor replacement, but I'm not crazy about the shotgun approach to diagnosis. Is there a sure-fire way to check for dist. failure? Car has 59k miles, I'm surprised it's acting up this soon. CMP Plug has decent ground and +5v, although the resistance from the engine block to ground is somewhat high (100 ohms, weird) but it shouldn't matter in this case.
