Well, I would'nt necessarily rely on jiffy lube. Loud valve noise, if you're sure that's what it is, is likely low on oil. Again, wouldn't rely on JL for that. Check your oil level right away, before you drive off again. I suspect you just had an oil change at JL?
What exactly is kicking on, the fan, or the compressor? Pop the hood while the engine is running, look at the a/c compressor pulley that's attached to the belt, there's like 3 circles on it, see if it's spinning when you think the a/c is on. If there's a low charge, there is not enough pressure and the compressor won't engage. Also look at the a/c/ sight glass on the evaporator, you have to pull the front grill off. You should see solid clear/greenish liquid, not foam/bubbles, not clear-no liquid.
I agree with Atlanta, it sounds like low refrigerant. Also try to reset the a/c by pushing "off" and "auto" at the same time while it's on, that will cycle it through a self-test and will re-set it. Make sure the thermostat, located in the dash just above the ash tray, is not clogged with lint, get some compressed air and blow it out.
Good luck.
