Parking brake troubles - new one

So this weekend I decided to finish of a couple of pending Saab issues on the 900s. One of them was the parking brake adjustment - it's been pretty floppy since we got the car. I adjusted the shoe clearance per the fsm, then tightened down the cable adjuster. When I went back in the car and tested it a few times, the adjustment kept getting looser and looser. WTF? So I go back under the car for some investigation. It turns out that the spot-welded bracket that acts as the cable housing stop on the inside of the exhaust tunnel has torn away from the body. Incidentally, this is apparently not the first time this has happened - there are self-tapping bolts threaded through the bracket into the sheet metal of the tunnel, which had also ripped out.
After surveying the carnage, I installed a larger diameter bolt in the rearmost hole, but the bracket is pretty badly deformed. Ultimately I am going to have to remove the exhaust and heat shield, pull up the carpeting, disconnect the cables, cut the bracket off and reweld it. Hopefully it will last until I have the time to do it. Has anyone else experienced this?
