saab will replace the timing belt only for free. However, you need to look closer at the timing belt tensioner, pulleys, serpentine belt water pump and camshaft seals. Check the maintenance records for when these items were replaced. There is generally more work to do on this engine at this mileage than just replacing the belt. Saab does this as a loss leader to cover the fact that they will pick up the revenue from additional work as detailed above. If you go to an indie and look to have all of the above done, budget for about $1500. If you have the belt done by the dealer and the tensioner or sprocket goes, you are risking a blown engine. As a v6 owner, I love my engine, but it is something that requires disciplined maintenance.
