Anders,
Thank you very much for your description of the fuel pump/relay wiring. I will proceed to hook up some more test lamps.
I had an 'incident' today. While cranking, the fuel pump was getting intermittent power, and the fuel pump relay was chattering. I forced a ground on the white wire from ECU. This caused the fuel pump relay to solidly close (which means the relay was getting good +12V from the adjacent relay via the gn/red wire), and the fuel pump got solid power. I could hear it buzzing. But the engine would not start.
While the engine was cranking (with solid power to the fuel pump), the various lights on the dash were flashing (check engine, etc.). Definitely an electrical problem somewhere.
You have suggested that this might all be due to bad ignition switch. What I don't understand is why contact in ign switch would be time/temp dependent. The engine started just fine this am. Drove 5 minutes, parked it. Four hours later at noon, I had the non-start incident. I could not get it going after 2 to 3 minutes of cranking (on and off so as not to fry the starter). Five hours later at 5pm, it started instantly. It always starts instantly when it's cold.
Thanks for your advice.
Dave
