At my shop, we have performed this repair more than 200 times in the last 3 years. Gear condition is important, as is initial alignment of everything when installing the reinforcement kit. The bushing that supports the drive gear in the gear case is often damaged also. We have determined that there are about 3 different iterations of the black steel bracket, and drivearm. On the early cars one of the attaching bolts for the reinforcement bracket can come in contact with the rivet on the drivearm, and this seems to cause early repeat failures. Another thing that causes early failures is when one or more of the tonneau cover latch cables binds and the motor attempts to open the cover while it is still latched. Saab has produced an improved cable for this. Correct programming will also help to insure the longevity of the repair. The average failure of an unreinforced unit is 350 operations. I have seen brand new units that were shipped from SAAB with the kit installed fail, but I do not know if this was caused by an external factor, nor do I know the number of operations. The highest operation count I have seen so far is 1839. I will try to post pictures of the various issues on our website in the near future. John
