The parking brake cable is hanging up, causing your grief.
In my '96 900S there is a defective design as the rear axle beam edge abrades the cable protection over the years. The moisture enters, rust results and the cable on that side hangs up, as mine has. I removed it, lubricated it 20 times over and reinstalled - so we shall see..
But then this is a Saabopel, not a Saab. GM is good at building cheap cars and making them look expensive - a good hard look underneath proves this.
But then the exhaust appears to be "first cabin", the auto-trans is 1000% better.
