Yes, the old larger aluminum rack is much more stable than the later ones. But there still may be some benefit to this. It might become the weak link as other things are tightened up.
If you are going to do poly bushings, you need to do this now as to not be doing the job twice.
So you are getting new control arms. The old bushings need to be removed and that is a lot of shop work. You might be able to get the control arms delivered with the new bushings removed and the old ones installed. I do not know if installing the poly bushings involves pressing or just inserting them. If you are considering the improved large bushing from genuinesaab.com, you would have to source that. If its a tool free install after removal of the stock ones, then you could get the arms done and delivered with the two other poly bushings and install the improved yourself. Brad at kcsaab.com has supplied the other bushings and might be able to ship the arms ready to go.
Are you then going from the 1994 style design to the 1995.5+ design, compete with new front swaybar? You should then get the front poly swaybar bushings from Brad as well.
Strut tower braces would not be needed at this step. There is also a good 6 point subframe brace from Nick at genuinesaab.com. From a logical point of view, the SAS type sway bar to reduce body roll should be done before frame bracing.
You can install the arms yourself. But the sway bar requires lowering the subframe which is a bit much.
I suggest that you seek advice from Brad and Nick. Nicks install instructions suggest that installing the large bushing is not eazy after the original is removed.
