Guru not! I just spend too much time here and write too much!

What has happened suggests that the injectors were very fouled with poor spray patterns. Low MPGs suggests poor combustion. That suggests fouling of things down stream. I would give things more highway time to burn off.

So you installed the new plugs and did the Techron last week and the IAC is cleaned and lubricated.

I went through this with my 95SET, I put on a Sports Exhaust at the time concerned that the old one was fouled up or a baffle had rotted out and shifted. That did help. But my MPGs became better after switching to M1 10W30 from Castrol FakeTek(tm). The switching to M1 5W40 made a good improvement over the M1 10W30. You do not have the running clearances of a new engine and W30 oils are not good enough.

I had switched to Saab synthetic gear box oil and that probably helped too. But I did notice that MPGs had a time delay on a trip with either lube that I attribute to the manual gear box slowly getting up to temperature. But some of that could be the tires warming up too. My MPGs would get to a good state after about 20-30 minutes. So some things can show up on longer trips that you will miss on shorter commutes etc.

I also found that crosswinds really had a large effect on MPGs. So 3 out of 4 wind directions will kill MPGs. And I found that the MPGs suffered in very hot or very cold weather. The T7's do not seem to have that problem. My 9-5 Aero Wagon, much bigger and heaver, gets better MPGs than my 95SET ever did. So the T5 does have some sensitivities to things that hurt MPGs.
