Search drs<underscore>install and find my posts for coolant pump and thermostat etc.

The 2.3 NA and 2.0 turbo have the same cooling system parts.

For turbo owners: Any interest in a Viggen IC conversion in the future? Fitting the new style lower rad hose will make that possible.

You can drain the coolant with 'zero spill'. See the t-stat post. You syphon from the coolant bottle, then down through its lower hose. You can get over 1 gallon that way. Then remove the upper rad hose and syphon out of the rad's side tank. Jack up the right side of the vehicle then syphon some more.

When you remove the lower rad hose to drain the fluid, it goes all over the place and runs out all across the front of the vehicle and you cannot contain the mess with a bucket. The coolant is posionous and smells and tastes sweet and attracts kids and pets. Destroys the kidneys.

I am not a fan of the rad drain cocks. These can be hard and brittle with age. And if they do not break, they may not seal tight again with their hardened rubber soft parts. Best left undisturbed as the consequences are too expensive. Note that if the dealer does this and it will not seal, they will be glad to install a new rad at your expense.

The heater hoses should be replaced. You need to get under the vehicle to do those at the firewall.

Note what is said about the small hoses leaking when reused with the OEM clamps. Gear type clamps from the hardware store with padding layer of folded over duct tape will work better.

The lower rad hose is easy to change out when the coolant pump is replaced. The pumps do not last forever and the pump to block adapter o-rings will also eventually harden and leak at around 120-150 K miles. When the pump is replaced, replace its small U hose. The replacement pump or pump kit will come with the adapter o-rings and one or two? replacement small o-rings for the coolant hard pipes. When replacing the adapter o-rings, might as well do the whole pump kit, as the pump will probably not survive that much longer, and considering the time/money in labor to remove the pump to replace the adapter o-rings, one should put a new pump in.

Do you know what temp t-stat you need.... 89C.
