Hi folks,
Had a valve job done last week, 2 valves were shot and car was running on 3 cyl. when I made it to my mechanic. Compression was great on 3 cyl., close to 0 on other. Anyway, over 1000$ later, it was fixed. Car had no boost at all. Turns out my rear muffler had internal failure, was partially (close to fully) blocked. Replaced rear muffler, now I've got some boost ;-). Well, it's an easy decision, money, or boost? I'll take the boost thank you! But, I'm out of money now, car hast cost over 5K$ this year in repairs, and after driving about 250 miles since valve job, my low coolant warning light came on. I tooped it off with a mix of concentrate and distilled water, but I guess this needs to be addressed, as it is probably linked to valve job / gasket or something, right? I've also noticed smoke out of the tailpipe at idle (about the same as before the valve job, when I was burning oil). Could this be white smoke (i.e. burning coolant?) or would I still be burning oil (doesn't smoke when I take off, only at idle)....

Left garage, car choked as IAC valve is probably problematic, unless it's the compressor (Thanks Dean - post below). Is there any danger to not have this fixed right away - excess wear on other parts? I keep running the car in econ mode (It's cold here now anyway, but in rain, it will fog up I guess). As well, I hear a chirp, cyclical, with each rotation of the wheels, sounds like a brake wear indicator warning. Are SAABs equipped with this? If so, my mechanic put my winter tires on at the same time last week... should he have noticed my brakes were worn? I had new plates put on about 7K miles ago (I do mostly hwy driving, easy on brakes), but they squeal every time I brake in town (after a few stops). Am I in need of new discs, or could they be turned?

This car is making me sick. I can't spend a week with it without something going wrong. I love it, but when will it end?

thanks for the advice,

Richard '95 900 SE-T, 106K miles

over the last year:
- a/c evaporator
- int. humidity/temp sensor (twice)
- a/c thermostat
- fan speed regulator
- freon recharge
- head gasket
- rear backup lights wouldn't engage when car was in reverse (switch)
- front brake pads
- new radio (old one wouln'd read any code anymore)
- new battery (sudden failure on old one left me stranded)
- new clutch cable
- pass. side tie rod
- seized parking brake cable
- air filter
- used SID to replace old blind one
- new clutch and TO bearing (main seal was said to be ok)
- engine flush and switch to synth. to stop oil burning, new sprak plugs
- oil pressure switch replaced (twice)
- idler pulley
- valve job (2 new vavles)
- flex pipe (replaced because was dammaged by hot fuel not being burned in cyl. no. 4 when engine crapped out - was in the country when this happened, not cool)
- rear muffler replaced, it was blocked, now I've got boost!

not fixed: (leaking main seal in steering rack stopped leaking with LUCAS stop leak red sludge, keeping my fingers crossed, ok for the last 9 months), AIC valve or compressor, brakes...)

Is this car ready to give me some mileage without further headache or me selling my ass on the street to pay for all this?
thanx again,
Rick
