heated seat repair

As the cool weather approaches I am going to fix my drivers side heated seat and I have a couple of questions. I know that there is a break somewhere in the seat bottom. My questions are the back and the bottom parallel or in a series? Should I look at the seat back anyways for possible weak and/or broken spots? Currently the passenger side works, but should I take it apart anyways to check it for weak areas? How long can I expect a repair to last? I plan on only reconnecting the broken wires back together, is this a bad idea?
TIA
