As with many first year SAABs, the '94 900 left much to be desired. There were a number of safety recalls on various models, and even more customer satisfaction campaigns (all expired by now, unlike the recalls which are for life). IF all of the updates have been done, most notably the front suspension upgrade and shifter linkage upgrade, and the clutch cable is new, they can be OK. The brakes are marginal, and the interior quality is suspect. They go through center exhaust resonators and flex pipes quite quickly, and clutch cables too. At least you don't have the V6. The AC systems can have all kinds of problems from leaking evaporators to early style anti-frost switches and expansion valves (and leaky hoses).
Bottom line: by 1998, the 900 was a pretty damn good car. Took 'em 5 model years to straighten it out though. Not too bad considering the 9000 took 10+!
You can check with SAAB to see which campaigns and recalls were performed over the years on your '94.
Good luck,
Eric H.
