I posted about 3 weeks ago regarding a mystery sound coming from the passenger side of the engine. The problem has continued with no change since then, and has now been joined by a slight rythmic engine vibration. It seems to be more noticable when the engine is cold, and is something that is more felt than heard (though it is audible). It is obvious for me sitting in the drivers seat and the pulsating vibration can be felt through the shifter. The rate of pulsating increases with engine speed and tends to be more noticeable when no gear is engaged.

In an attempt to combat both the original medium-high tinny noise and the new vibration, I went ahead with the short belt modification and a new idler pulley (as recommended by Dean). While I had the belt off, I ran the engine, but both the noise and pulsation were still present. There was also no free play in any of the accessory pulleys, so I can only assume that the problem is within the engine.

The pulsating itself does not bother me much, but I am worried that something else could be wrong. Does anyone have any idea as to what this could be? Since I haven't had the exhaust checked out since the accident (see previous post), could a leak be causing the vibration? At idle it seems to be about 2-3 pulses/vibrations every second, and then occurs more frequently as RPM's increase. No fluctuation in the tachometer is seen and it doesn't seem as if the vibrations are caused by a change in RPM like typical idle surging (I could be wrong). Is a balance/timing chain issue more likely now? Should I bring it to a shop to have them check it out? Thanks.
