Since when does a worn lower control arm bushing fail a State of Maine Inspection? The second item was a rear muffler hanger. The single one at the front of the rear muffler was missing. I just replaced that rear muffler a month ago and did not see that hanger on there.
I replaced both lower control arms less than 2 years ago. Ironically, I had ordered 2 Scantechs but received one OES and one Scantech due to lack of stock at no extra charge from eeuroparts. The left arm was OES and the right Scantech. Well, it was the right Scantech one that failed. I was just down there replacing my struts and at a later date, the ball joint boots and didn't think anything of the condition of the bushings. The shop wanted $300 to replace that arm.
Well, last Friday, I was in the same shop to replace a rear engine seal for $325. Back in January, my clutch was replaced at the same location for $847 including clutch kit, and various seals that included the rear engine seal. A week later (in January) I went back to replace the clutch cable for $54. I started noticing engine oil leaking in August and recently noticed about a quart/month loss of engine oil. I've been using 0W40 Mobil 1 with SAAB filter. End of September, the clutch cable broke for the 5th time (in two years) so I replaced it myself. The shop only had a 3 month warranty on parts and labor and would not fix or replace anything of the above for free. I find it hard to beleive a rear engine seal would fail after 8 months. This shop is Swedish Solutions in Westbrook, ME that specializes in SAABs. At this rate, I don't know what to think.
To give this shop a little (if any credit), after the clutch cable broke in Septemeber, and after I had fixed the cable, I went in and they offered to replace the rear engine seal for $240. I guess the knocked an hour of labor off initially. The day of the appointment, it was a differnt person I dealt with so it came to $325 for the full 5 hours labor. The original quote was a verbal quote from a different associate.
I was in teh garage last night in teh freezing cold thinking that it would only be the e-brake that would fial the inspection. (link below)
OK, enough of my ranting...
