No reason to remove the engine.
Much of those six weeks Greg spent whining about how much the exhaust valves cost, rather than fixing the car. :)
All kidding aside, the timing belt is hard to do. I made Greg help me with mine when my car was due. Its about 5 times more involved then say the timing belt in my Volvo 850, and the instructions in the factory manual are very cryptic. Greg and I used the generic directions for the Cadilac Catera, as they make more sense. That said, if you have the skill to R&R the heads, you should be able to figure out the timing belt. You can probably do it without the tool, but you'll wish you had the cam gear locks.
You definately want to replace the tensioner and WP when you do your car. You also want to replace the thermostat, and the cam seals(that's a no brainer since the heads are coming apart). Also consider the timing cover if you have the old type with the seal that falls off.
The v6 is a cool little engine. You'll appreciate it more once you have it apart.
