Noisy cooling fan

I have a '95 900S in really good shape. The engine runs great and is nice and quiet except for one thing: the cooling fan. When I turn the car off, the fan stays running for about 20-30 seconds until the thermo-switch kills it; okay, normal, right? BUT, the damn thing sounds like a HURRICANE under the hood. And I don't mean like a bad bearing or anything. I'm talking it sounds like it's moving a ton of air for that half a minute. It is LOUD, LOUD, LOUD. (And it's a little loud.) Is this normal with these cars??????
Thanks.
