Crank Sensor and or Cam Sensor - further q on 2.3 Posted by iveand [Email] ![]() ![]() |
This is regarding the 2.3NA cold start problems that I and others have been experiencing. I am trying to learn more about what could be a possible culprit beyond IAC cleaning, TB cleaning, spark plugs. Just read a post

indicating that the crank sensor tells the fuel pump that the engine is turning, so send fuel. If bad crank sensor, then, no fuel. Would this never allow the engine to start? Or is it a temporary state until something else would override this lack of signal.
Also, Cam Sensor (connected to distributor, right?). The post above indicates that a faulty sensor here would be indicated by not seeing the tach needle bounce around when the engine is turning over while attempting to start. Again, is this something that can be looked into?
If either of these sensors were suspect, would they cause starting problems, but allow the engine to run just fine after FINALLY getting started, and also allow the engine to start fine if warm? It is a long shot, but learning more about how these sensors fit in with the system can't hurt. Any info?
