Well, it happened. The belt jumped off one of the pulleys last night. So I did all sorts of research trying to see if this is something I can fix on my own. Looks like it can be done, but I have a couple questions.
First, I have read some things that talk about how much the pulleys should spin in terms of free spin or a not. I have one pulley (the lower front pulley) that seems to spin pretty easily. That is bad then? Should I look to replace it or would it be ok for a while? I wouldn't even mind if I had to go back at a later date and fix it. I just want the car drivable for now and I can always order any non-stock parts so that I can fix it when I have more time.
Next, there are two pulley that I can not spin by hand at all. The small one (upper back pulley) will not spin, and the really big pulley at the bottom, kinda near the middle (from a front - back perspective)...is that the drive shaft pulley or something maybe? Seems to be a term I read here somewhere. I can not turn either of these two pulleys by hand. Should they both turn? Does that mean they are both now siezed up? Then again I was thinking that maybe the drive shaft (if I am correct about that) one is turned by the engine so doesn't need to turn by hand.
Ok, and finally, I'm having trouble locating the tensioner adjustment too. Is it the pulley itself, or is it something connected to a pulley? And which pulley? I'm just trying to make sure I don't break anything.
Ok, this is the true finally. Can anyone give me the terms for each of the pulleys in this picture? (http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/NG900/index.html?bID=81513) That would be helpful for me, and I haven't been able to find anything on it just yet. Not a huge deal though.
I have the new belt, now it is just a matter of putting it on (once I get the pulley problelm figured out). Going with the short belt mod as has been suggested all over the place around here. Thanks for any help.
