Thank you, and for your other comments on the cooling system (yes, original thermo is starting to stick, and we plan to replace it).
Replacing the IC is intriguing, especially because of other work in the same area, but not much point until other things are done first... cooling system including fan, water pump, short belt, most hoses, thermo, power steering lines and hoses, vac lines (not all are actually bad, but starting to fail one at a time)
From a performance standpoint a few extra horsepower from a new IC may not be worth it without other upgrades to the air intake and exhaust. For that kind of $$ I can get a new/upgraded suspension, shift linkage, and a new set of summer tires... may even have money left over to replace that disreputable peeling hood emblem <chuckle>. I have also not found actual measurements of pressure drop across the two ICs.
