Auto narcolepsy (longish)

Once upon a time as I was driving, the car ('94 900S 140k) simply died (fell asleep) at speed. It was as though somebody had turned the ignition off...nothing but silent coasting to a stop. All the idiot lights were on. When I turned the key off and back on, no idiot lights remained lit. It restarted immediately, drove forward about 10 meters and promptly died once again. I restarted it again and held the throttle at 2500 rpm and it would run fine for a bit, then I would feel it "miss". As long as I revved it, it would survive the "miss". After a several minutes of this progression, it drove just fine. It has happened before. It happens randomly, and during all levels of outside and engine temperatures, as well as humidity. No smoke or other noticable symptoms. I have learned to put the car in neutral and restart while coasting...that way I have some steerage, etc. I've tried gas treatment, in case there is the occasional bad fuel. I've already used all the "techron" and cleaning suggestions (with the exception to the IAC thing). When this abnormality isn't at the forefront, the car runs perfectly.
Thanks in advance,
jt
