I think the brushes and the regulator may be one part, around $72 on eEuroparts.com, free shipping, p/n 4737151.
I tend to be a little conservative and don't usually just swap parts, so I would take the alternator out and have it bench tested.
Or take the car to Advance Autoparts or someone like that, and have them check the charging system. They wheeled out a tester to my car for free.
70k miles is a bit early, as far as I heard asking around the Bosch 90A units usually last around 100k.
I bought a remanufactured Bosch 90A alternator from CBS Automotive on ebay. About $120 incl. shipping (search for "remanufactured saab 900 alternator). They seem to have a few surplus in stock, remanufactured by Beck Arnley, same company that sells them to auto parts stores.
