Found prices on the web for the SDS1V2 and DOCKCLAR which made reasonable sense compared with the time and effort spent hacking into the CD changer cable as described elsewhere by Elliot.

The pieces arrived. However, the connectors on the docking box are different than on the cable. It appears that the V2 in SDS1V2 stands for version 2 - and they changed the connectors from two D-type connectors to a single 12 pin modular plug. There are V2 cables for other headunits/changers - but not for the Clarion unit used in NG 900's - market demand I guess. The trick would be to locate an older SDS1 docking unit which has the right connectors for the cable. The search is on - will post the result.

Besides all that the unit and cables seem to be well constructed and with plenty of cable. When assembled with the two D connectors the docking station would be quite bulky - perhaps that's why they changed the connectors. The switching is by a small push button and an LED indicates the source (off=CD, on=Aux1, blinking=Aux2). It would probably be possible to fit these into one of the switch blanks on the center console. Other connections needed are an earth and 12v feed of the ignition switch.
