Hi Jeremy,
Lets see if I can describe this. Part of the housing is firmly attached to the door, and there's a seam between this and the "outer" part of the housing. This seam should be tight, but in my case it is held together by some kind of rubbery caulk. This almost does the job (actually doesn't look bad), but the mirror sags a bit and I have to keep readjusting the position; it seems like the days are numbered before it just sort of falls off. I haven't disassembled it to find out why it was caulked, 'cause I kind of need the mirror in place for driving. But I'm assuming that something is broken or the PO wouldn't have resorted to the caulk "fix".
Anyway, I think I'll just replace the whole unit with a used part. I found one available for $40 which seems reasonable.
Thanks,
Jeff
