If the scoring is cleaned up, high spots removed on bore and piston, then I think that that is all that is required. Once the piston lifts off of its seat by overcoming the spring force at the closed position, it is by design spilling flow volume, so a but more that flows through the scoring might not be an issue. Depends how deep and how long the piston is which determines the resistance of flow through those scoring channels.

There does not seem to be any way to renew the bore, unless taken to a machine shop and sleeved, but that might not be possible. New timing cover is $199, but there are two in use and would need VIN to get the right one.
