PROBLEM SOLVED!

Okay, the problem turned out to be not nearly so bad as anticipated. True, the battery had been run completely down by my leaving the running lights on all afternoon after exiting the car. This morning, however, the car started without incident with a jump from my wife's Mazda Miata, in spite of the fact that its battery resembles that of a large motorcycle. I now blame the jump from the AAA wrecker on the fact that the wrecker driver did not have the cables connected properly!!! He was parked at a good distance from my Saab and never seemed to have an appropriate conection (in hindsight). I had to re-code the audio system and re-set the clocks, but otherwise the battery recharged after running the car a bit and now all seems normal! Thanks for everyone's advice! Thanks also to the good folks at Red Earth Motor Sports (my local Saab mechanic in Oklahoma City), who encouraged me to retry the jump before having the car towed to them. No thanks to the inept AAA crew!
