Thanks very much for your helpful post!
This morning I was able to check the vacuum lines and found a very small air leak on the 4mm pipe that runs from the valve cover t-piece to the TB. I have bought some vacuum line so plan to fit that tonight. Whilst I was there I noticed that the t-piece which fits into the valve cover doesn't fit snugly and there is a small oil leak there. It looks like the grommet is old and perished. Could this also be contributing to my emissions problem? You don't happen to know a part number for this do you? My MOT re-test is tomorrow and I usually get Saab parts from Euro Car Parts (http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecommerce/Parts.asp) because there is a branch 10 mins drive from my house.
Also the MOT centre recommended I try Forte fuel system cleaner, so that is currently in the tank
I'll check/clean the other things you recommend tonight - plugs, IAC, TB, evaportaive control system solenoid.
Also where abouts are the O2 sensors located on my machine (96 900, 2.0i N/A)?
Thanks again!!
