Like everything else in the DIY world, experience is really a valuable asset, well worth the money.
From the Haynes and looking for information elsewhere, it does not seem utterly complicated. This is also reflected by the time estimates to perform these changes. If a job takes more than 2 hours, it is probably too complex for the novice DIY mechanic. If the job takes less than that, then you are probably ok to try. I have NOT done this job myself, so take this information like a grain of salt. I would not try it without some sort of engine support, whether is required or not.
