I pulled the wiper motor assembly and opened the housing. Previous owner had apparently locked the wipers in some mid-position and the electrical contact strip for "home" was covered with melted plastic from the plastic wheel. I used a small sharf knife to "xact"ingly remove the plastic meld from covering the home contact strip. smoothed the plastic edge with emery board. Reassemble and - wala - intermittant wipes and going to off return wipers to home.
I surmised the wipers had been stuck in a nearly home-position and overheated the plastic. I found that the passenger wiper arm had stripped the spindle of the crank assembly. They had shimmed to fit using aluminum foil !?$
PS I know this is an old pst but thought it might help others someday.
