Well I posted a few days ago regarding my oil warning light coming on with the SID chime going off. I parked the car, pondered and consulted with you guys. Then bought a motor flush (could not get my hands on Amsoil or BG over the weekend in Indy), along with Mobil 1 0W-40.
Drained the oil. Pulled the oil pressure valve (piston plunger thing). It looked ok except for a slight wear/score mark running vertically on the piston. It was nothing like the sample picture Anders put up a while back. I also pulled the valve cover and there was hardly any sludge build up. The sprockets looked healty and so did the chain. Once again nothing like the sample picture Anders put out. However, when I pulled the piston I did notice tiny pieces of black debris/residue(?). I crossed my fingers ran the flush and then changed the filter and oil. The car has been running great since Saturday with no lights or indications.
Today my wife was driving home from work and just before she got home, the oil light with the chime went off again!!!!!! What the heck!!! Now I am really upset and frustrated. I have contacted a Saab/Volvo shop and they said to have it towed in and take the guess work out of it. They want to pull the timing cover and see what's up. Their labor is not too bad I guess ($67/HR.).
The thing is that we recently moved to Indy from Ohio. We are in an apartment for 6 months before we can find the right house to move in. I am limited as to the things I can do in the apartment parking lot without looking like an idiot. I like to think of myself as mechanically inclined. I have pulled motors out before, changed clutches, done brakes, and etc...(not all on Saabs). The idea I had was to have the car towed to my storage facility where I have a garage, and maybe doing the car there. Am I looking at a lot of work??? Is it ok to do on a garage floor in the winter or would it be wise to have the shop look at it?
Sorry for such a long message but I needed to let it out.
Thanks
Shafi
