A fuel cut is much preferrable to the other possible oddities, but sounds like you don't like the simple answer... here are a few more of the usual suspects:

I assume you installed a manual controller to increase boost well past the stock level, and then installed the sport exhaust to reduce back pressure... How far into red does the needle go?

Did you upgrade the bypass valve at the same time?

How about the wastegate actuator? (the cylinder thingy on the side of the turbo) The actuator is operated by a combination of pressure and a mechanical spring. The pressure difference across the turbine can be significant, and the actuator has to be able to handle that. Higher boost and less back-pressure can be too much for the stock actuator spring. (google it)

Wastegate... a stuck wastegate can cause a temporary surge in power, until one of several things happens: fuel cut or a blown gasket or broken pistons (like the early viggen w/o the stronger pistons) Not sure which goes first on this engine, head gasket or vc gasket, but I already know vc gasket is much cheaper. A wastegate can also fail to close all the way which would would cause a loss of power. I think if that happens, you just bought yourself a rebuilt turbo.
