I have a '98 900 SE vert that I bought in Jan. '02 with just under 93K on the clock. Absolute perfect condition, all maintenance records, etc...I paid $9500. Problem wise - I haven't had any, except for a new front O2 sensor and the need to fix the tonneau cover brackets with the kit from Saab (total cost on both at an indy was about $600). The only other things I've had to do are wear and tear items: tires, rear shocks, new brake pads and rotors all around.
I would have them do the tonneau cover bracket fix as a condition of sale since if the brackets give and the top continues to be opened and closed it can destroy the gears which gets VERY expensive, unless of course it's already been done...
As for the DI cassette, the NG900's T-5 red DI is much more reliable and longer lasting than the 9-3's T-7 black DI. My original (checked the date stamp - and yes - original!) DI cassette is still running great, however I did buy a replacement at 130,000 miles as a preemptive strike and have the original in the trunk as a spare.
