Well, the my 900 SET 5 speed tranny is apart, (tranny S/N J48979),

I am going to be replacing the 3rd gear synchro. The question I have after looking at the internal parts breakdown in http://www.thesaabsite.com\9000, they show 1 synchro for both 3rd and 4th at $34 each.

I called a dealer and all their other parts were the same price wise(crushable sleeve, circlips, gaskets, etc), but said I needed two $60 and one $134 part for the 3rd and 4th gear synchros???

I have ordered the technical manual but it won't be here for another 10 days, and would like to order the parts now so I can put everything back together.

A note to fellow DIY'ers.. rebuilding the tranny is not a job for the faint at heart (without the proper tools)!. Had to rent a massive gear puller, and the input shaft bearing was rather challenging to get out... some heat always helps. Pulling the case was evil, and ended up making a threaded metric bolt welded to 5/8 nut to pull it apart.

The car is actually getting back together now. So far:

1. All three engine mounts were shot (craked or broken) - replaced
2. Clutch was down to the rivets - replaced
3. flywheel- resurfaced
4. Alternator (took to get rebuilt, and the shaft where the brushes contact was too worn down) rebuilt alternator ordered
5. Tensioner pulley- replaced bearing
6. Idler pulley- new
7. Head- resurfaced, new head gasket
8. Valve guide oil seals- replaced
9. New front and rear main crankshaft seals
10. All new coolant lines
11. All new rubber vaccum hose (old one was cracked)
12. New Thermostat
13. New valve cover gasket
14. New input/output/shifter transmission seals
15. New 3rd gear synchro
16. New antenna mast

Sure the car was a steal at $500.... right.... and I have not even driven it yet! (towed it to my hanger)

Thanks for all the help, the resources from this group have been great!
