#1: Thanks, great suggestion! I looked it up, and EPC shows a gasket for the plug. Any idea what kind and size? I have some copper and aluminum ones on hand. There is some kind of plug or bolt on the edge of the cover too, facing the front of the car, not sure what that is. My eyes are not so good with oil on my glasses... (chuckle)

#2: no, manual gear box... rear seal seeps a little where you had said, but it has done that for at least two years. This is a thin layer of new oil, on top of the usual black engine grime. A little goes a long way, but this covers most of the subframe member, and drips from there to the splash shield.

Maybe time for the old "bottom blast" at the car wash, much as I hate that.
