My daughter's '95 NG900 had both problems - and they are totally separate.
The flickering dash light problem persists to this day. The problem appears to be in a loose connection within the dimmer assembly. You can remove the dimmer assembly from the dashboard easily. The unit, however, is not a straight forward reostat but an electronic assemly. I was not able to troubleshoot the problem and my daughter didn't want to buy a new controller. Hence, the problem still exists. Perhaps, you could get a dimmer unit from a salvage yard?
The problem with the ignition switch was first noted on this BB as a problem effecting the V6's. The problem was/is that the car would just drop dead in a random (and sometimes frequent) manner. You could restart the car without a problem BUT that meant bringing it to a stop and putting the gearshift in "Park". This happened to my daughter to such an extent that she refused to drive the car. Imagine having it happen to you in the middle of a lefthand turn across a busy highway. She was petrified of the car.
The local Saab dealer knew nothing of the problem and suggested that "Perhaps the ECU was faulty" and quoted $3,000 to troubleshoot and repair. The problem was much simpler and cheaper to fix - replace the ignition switch! The OEM switches had two "Hot" connections when the switch was in the "On" position. One connection handled the ignition system and the other the accessories (I think). Anyway the ignition connection would go bad - hence the car would just go dead. Replacing the switch was involved but a hell of a lot cheaper that the ECU.
