The 4 wire heated O2 sensors are recommended for replacement at 100K miles. Sometimes they fail all of a sudden and other times they just slowly deteriorate. The response time can become sluggish and the car doesn't run like it should but you don't get any warning lights.
You might be able to extend the life of the sensor by burning off carbon deposits with a torch. If you remove the sensor, don't forget to apply some high temp anti-sieze before reinstalling.
