Timing Chain Tensioner measurements Posted by Nathan [Email] (#2249) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Nathan) on Sat, 2 Apr 2005 12:32:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Been noticing a metalic sound on the timing side of the engine. Hopefully its the tensioner or an idler pulley going bad. Engine has roughly 107K miles on it, have no record from PO about pulleys being done since this engine was put in 45k-50k miles ago. With that said, I pulled the timing chain tensioner and took some measurements. I understand that 11mm is the limit, at that point a new chain is recommended (though I have read a few posts that state 13mm). So where am I taking this measurement from? From the tensioner body to the end of the rachet teeth I'm reading 7mm, coincidentally the teeth measure 1 mm between eachother, so 7 teeth are exposed. Or am I measuring all the way from the end of the tensioner body to the end of the device where it pushes on the chain guide? I have attempted to include a link to a picture of the tensioner against a cm ruler. Hope it works. Any clarification would be great. Thanks!
