Quick question about SID unit

I have an SID unit that I removed from a wrecked Saab. At the time I removed, everything was working fine, but I want to double check that it's still ok. I was hoping to swap it into my current Saab to see if it is functioning correctly and to see if all the pixels work. Can I just swap it in, test it, and swap it back again, or will there be problems with doing this? Also, is there any way to check to see if all the pixels are functioning?
Thanks.
