...just does not seem right.
1. In theory you should be able to run through all the gears with the engine off without touching the clutch pedal, but even on my car with the original linkage and transmission it can take a few tries to get into 3rd or 5th that way, and sometimes 1st.
2. The hand brake is not supposed to hold the car if you start it in reverse with the clutch engaged. I've done that once or twice thinking it was in neutral, and the car does "jump" back.
If memory serves, you have the hydraulic clutch conversion on your car, not an original hydraulic clutch, but I do not remember if that was a diy install or not. So, unrelated to the trans, you may have an issue with getting that all back in place, slave cylinder or not.
