DO you know if it is the stock radio. Mine is stock and it works excellent but i also have a telescoping antenna that is also stock. If you do have the stock radio with cassette and trunk cd clip, in no way is it a crappy radio system. Since the attenna apears to be replaced, maybe some one did a hack job connecting it. I would first look at the connection in the trunk and determine how it was spiced into the system. Sorry that i can't give you more of an opinion of what might be wrong since I haven't had to deal with this. But if you can access the cable and its connection in the trunk it might be worth just attaching a piece of wire to its center of the coxial cable to determine if the reception can be improved, if its clarity doesn't change any, then it might be diconnected some where up behind the radio.
