On rwd cars, the term 'output shaft' makes a bit more sense than on fwd cars where the differential is (usually) part of the trans housing.
On a rwd trans, the input shaft transfers power from the engine to the trans and the output shaft transfers the power out of the trans to the driveshaft...which turns the diff., apportioning power to (each) wheel.
On our cars it is the driveshafts/halfshafts which transfer power out of the differential to the wheels. Power transfer between the trans and the diff is all internal.
How's the new trans doing? Gotta say, my hats off to ya for that job.
