Hi there,

So I finally got my Alpine Head Unit installed using the kit from Taliaferro. It looks nice, except for a couple of wierd little issues:

There'll be a quiz at the end, so pay attention...

1) While I have the Head Unit on (CD or radio), the SID display will seem to ''reset'' every 10 seconds or so. It goes blank, then comes back, and doesn't happen w/o the stereo on.

2) The BLACK PANEL feature only darkens the SID (again, only w/ stereo on). All of the other gauges stay on, kind of defeating the purpose. Also, the rotary dimmer only applies to the SID and clock.

3) The SID is giving really wierd DTE readings. It will go from 661 to 231 to 18 to 658 to "--- miles" all with a quarter tank. This is the wierdest one for me.

4) The fourth, and probably simplest problem is that when the ignition is off, the stereo loses power and forgets all settings. I'm pretty sure this is just because I mismatched the constant and switched +12v lines to the wiring harness when soldering.

Quiz/Question time:

1) Any Ideas on what is causing the SID oddities? Again, it is the SID 2. FYI, I used heat shrink, so an occasional short is pretty much out of the question, though I have been known to eff up.

2) Does anyone out there have a better wiring diagram for the harness? The SAAB one that came with the kit was kinda confusing, as some of the wires were in different colors and prongs in different locations than specified.

Thanks, and I welcome all input.

Spencer
