If you jack the car, and try to locate the drain plug you will notice it is awefully close to the car's subframe. If you were to put an allen wrench in there (8mm hex) you will notice that it will be difficult to get it in place and have a good angle to put force into the wrench. Most Allen wrenches around are simply too long (even in their short span) to clear the subframe. If you take an 8mm Allen wrench and you cut about 1cm of the short span, then it will fit perfectly and clear the subframe with ample space. You will be able to use the allen wrench without problems. Go try it with your current wrench and the problem will become obvious :) Then again, some folks around here have allen wrenches that clear the space without modifications. Perhaps you are one of the lucky ones? :)
