Good eyes. As much as I like this web site, I was not under the car to measure the battery cable. I took the opportunity to look at the two connections and measure them when I took the old one alternator out, and the cable was loose. Old one looks like a black lump.
The one you see is a Bosch 90A alternator, remanufactured by Beck Arnley. Bought surplus but unused on e-bay.
The pic below is what it looked like with the remaned alternator and all the other parts out of the car. I took the opportunity to replace the tensioner pulley while that was out, even though the bearing on that pulley still seemed ok.
I also checked the waterpump again (remembering your post on waterpumps), and still seems ok. Spins maybe one-two revolutions, and almost no play in the pulley.
