the very first time is reasonable. There are 2 pitfalls. First, the retaining spring at the pedal is a pain in the buttisimo if it "falls" past the location where it needs to clip. I suggest you device some mechanism of holding the spring in place. Some people use a hanger around the clip, then tie the hanger to the steering wheel, thus holding the clip in an open state.

Again, if the clip falls to the side, you will have an uneccessary strugle with the darn thing.

The second issue is the length of the cable. You can pull it hard until it ratchets, the ratcheting mechanism will self adjust once installed, but during installation you might need more slack than what is available on the cable at the time. So pull it hard.

Last but not least the routing is crucial, make sure to clip the cable to the cable housing on the firewall. Other than those caveats is pretty easy. The very first time, it takes much longer than it should. Once you've done it a couple of time is a 30 minute job.

I strongly recommend you search the board for some recent posts about lubricating the clutch arm in situ, as well as the throwout bearing. I think that was a pretty clever idea, and something you should do together with your new cable replacement.
