This is for the ball joint between the outer control arm and the suspension knuckle.

The lower securing spring is 3 coil and very difficult to engage. You'll get 1 or 2 coils on after some (or tons of) effort and the third coil going on will pull up the boot and you'll be worse then when you began. The coil is too long to get on easily and too short to hang yourself from out of frustration!

To begin with get some needle-nose pliers and one skinny flathead screwdriver and always pull the ball joint bolt AWAY from the side you are trying to get the spring over. Use the screwdriver with the tip on the arm below the boot to pry the spring and the pliers to slide it down and guide it and keep it relatively loose

I realized that a small size zip tie around the lower boot will increase the circumfrence of the lower lip enough that it slides on easier without the end of the spring catching as well as helping to hold the boot in place. If none of this works for you, and you are near giving up, take a good pair of wire cutters and remove a small section off the end of the coil spring (make it shorter) and it will become much much easier, though you'll likely comprimise the holding power. 5

I hope that helps people, check your boots often, they are simple, albeit 20$ parts that can save your ball joints and because of the lame intregral design ... your control arms.
